Cute Milestones

Gavin has recently reached some really cute milestones.  He's started to sing.  Usually he only sings the last word in a phrase.  It's so sweet when he sings "I'm a Child of God".  And, as of yesterday, he's now saying "love you".  He's so cute!

Robert and I have created addicts out of our boys--

College basketball addicts.

It's beginning to take over our lives.

Every evening Adam and Matt ask what games are on.  And every evening they beg to watch said games.  Of course, Robert encourages this.  So, every evening, college basketball is being watched in our basement. 

I knew it was getting bad when Matt stayed home one day last week because he was sick.  After my presidency meeting, I found him watching old, recorded KU basketball games.

Valentine's Day

Our Valentine's Day was very low-key.  Adam came home sick from school.  Gavin had a cold.  And Robert just wasn't feeling great.  I put up some decorations the night before since the boys enjoy this.  They each found a gift bag at their seat on the table.  Just small things inside--a game, candies, and card.  Since Adam was scheduled to have basketball practice that evening, we had dinner at home.  However, neither Adam nor Gavin wanted to eat so it was a quiet dinner.  As for Valentines gifts for each other, Robert and I renewed our passports.  Romantic, huh?!  Actually, it was my idea.  Maybe the renewing isn't so exciting, but our trip to Europe this summer will be.  When I do think back on our day, it was nice just to be home with everyone.  And even though three of them were sick, we have each other to take care--we're not alone.  So, isn't that what Valentine's Day is really meant to be?

Rock Chalk Jayhawk

A few weeks ago we took Adam and Matt to their first KU basketball game.  With Robert's ability to make a deal, we bought 8 tickets.  Once the game sold out (they always do) we sold 4 of them at double our purchase price, which meant we went to the game for free.  Smart move, eh!  Going to a game at Allen Fieldhouse is like going to a game at Fenway Park.  There's just so much history.  KU played Iowa State---and won.  It will be nice if we can make this a yearly tradition.

 It's hard to tell from this photo, but there are fans standing against the glass windows in the distance.  This fieldhouse feels so 'old school'.  It's so much fun to attend a game there.

Partners in Crime

We met our goal!

At the beginning of the year, Robert and I felt that Adam and Matt were old enough, and good enough readers, to read the Book of Mormon.  Up to that point, we had our family scripture study using the illustrated scripture books.  As motivation I made a big chart with every book and chapter in the Book of Mormon.  With each chapter we read we colored in the corresponding square.  We hung the chart at the end of the hall so we would see it each night before going to bed.  Initially the boys were quite excited.  However, that quickly waned.  Quite quickly!  This goal took a lot of patience--mine and Robert's patience.  Oh, the complaining!!!  We made it, though.  We completed the entire Book of Mormon on December 28th.  I jokingly told the boys we were going to start over on January 1st. 

The moans and groans were loud.  We then told them we'd take a break, and read some of the illustrated scriptures again.  Perhaps in June we'll make another chart.  Won't they be pleased!
